Forty-four Palm Beach County seniors were selected for the 26th annual Dick Howser All-Star Showcase, which returns to Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter June 1.
The North team will be led by Jupiter first baseman John McCarthy and Benjamin right-hander Matt Harris, while the South team features American Heritage right-hander Anthony Delaney and Atlantic pitcher/first baseman Cody Bryant.
The game gives players a pro-ball experience: they dress in the Miami Marlins’ minor-league clubhouse and wear the uniforms of the minor-league Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach Cardinals. The gates at Roger Dean open at 11 a.m. for parents and friends to watch batting practice. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
A showcase batting order will be in effect; as in, every player bats. The game will last three hours or ten innings, whichever comes first.
Tickets are $8.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and kids. Retired and active military will be admitted free with proper identification. Tickets will be good for the Palm Beach Cardinals vs. Fort Myers Miracle Florida State League game that begins at 6:35 p.m.
The game is named for the late Dick Howser, the former major league player and manager who grew up in West Palm Beach, graduated from Palm Beach High and played at Florida State.
Rosters were selected by head coaches of area high schools. Coaches could nominate seniors from their own teams, but could not vote for them.
